Protecting student information is a priority for Lansing Promise.

When Lansing Promise receives personally identifiable information from an educational agency or institution that is subject to FERPA, Lansing Promise will use and protect that information consistent with applicable FERPA requirements, applicable agreements, and the purpose for which the information was disclosed.

Where FERPA applies, Lansing Promise will not knowingly use or redisclose personally identifiable information from education records except as authorized by applicable law, the applicable disclosure, consent, or agreement.

Lansing Promise may receive student information under different legal and operational circumstances. Therefore, not all information maintained by Lansing Promise is necessarily an "education record" under FERPA, and this Privacy Policy should not be interpreted as creating FERPA rights where FERPA does not apply.

Where a school, district, college, or university has provided information to Lansing Promise under a written agreement, the terms of that agreement may impose additional privacy, security, use, retention, or deletion requirements.

We take additional care when collecting personal information from children and students.

When federal or state law requires parental or guardian consent before collecting or using personal information from a child, Lansing Promise will follow the applicable requirements.

Lansing Promise does not knowingly collect personal information from children for unrelated commercial purposes.

Because Lansing Promise's programs may involve minors, certain information may be collected directly from a parent, guardian, school, district, or other authorized organization rather than directly from the student.

12. FERPA AND THIRD-PARTY DISCLOSURES

When Lansing Promise receives education-record information subject to FERPA, the organization will follow applicable restrictions concerning the use and redisclosure of that information.

Where Lansing Promise performs services for an educational institution and receives information under an applicable FERPA exception, Lansing Promise will use the information only for the authorized purpose and will protect it against unauthorized use or redisclosure consistent with applicable law and contractual requirements.

Written agreements may be used to establish responsibilities for student information, including permissible uses, security protections, redisclosure restrictions, and data retention or destruction requirements.
