  • An Apprenticeship is a "learn-while-you-earn" career training program that allows a person to get paid and get hands-on experience. The apprenticeship may last 1-4 years and will teach skills for a high-skilled career in the skilled trades pathway.  A person in the apprenticeship is called an apprentice. All apprentices get on-the-job training under a mentor with some classroom instruction.

Lansing Promise supports students who are enrolled in a local union skilled trades program.  Students can be reimbursed up to $1000 for any related equipment required for on-the-job training or instruction. Examples of eligible purchases: tools, uniform, safety equipment, and/or outdoor wear.

Lansing Promise will also work with local union skilled trades program by providing up to $2500 for skilled trades related equipment or instructional materials.

To process any reimbursement, we simply ask students or skilled trades partners to provide a receipt as proof of purchase.
